The horse program here at Brownwood is all about learning every aspect of horsemanship. Roger has been teaching students to ride for over 40 years and has students go on to everything from professional horsemen to veterinarians and many other aspects of the animal husbandry field. We feel that learning about the care training of horses can go on to help people advance in most areas of our daily life.
Since he was a youngster rising at five AM to care for the family’s horse and pony, Roger has been making childhood dreams come true. Known by some as the “ponyguru” he has cleared many years worth of daily hurdles with an outward ease and patience.
We have the oldest horse farm in the area off Birmingham Highway four miles north of Crabapple. We are not the fanciest farm, but if experience, and fun on a budget appeals to you, we may be the place for you. Roger has raised lots and lots of children with horses.
Roger can prepare you for the show ring. We put on eleven shows a year at Wills park and we attend other local, and “A” rated shows. The emphasis is on doing your best. Winning is nice, but the lessons you learn are more important. Discipline, team work, self control, patience the value of friends, are all skills that you are going to use later in life.
We also strive to have a very safe riding program. The horse we use are all appropriate for the students riding level, and Roger will not put you on something that is beyond what you are capable of. We have several safe school horses that students who don’t have their own horse use. Others who do have their own horses board and take lessons with us.
